The Virtual College Curriculum

Overview

The Virtual College curriculum includes a wide variety of education and qualifications, including:

Key Skills qualifications

These are equivalent to GCSES (Key Skills Level 1 = GCSE grade D-G, Key Skills Level 2 = GCSE grades A-C). Our students study for Key Skills in the core subjects - ICT, Numeracy and Literacy.

ASDAN Youth Award Scheme

This is a nationally recognised award - our students will aim for first the Bronze and then the Silver Award. This scheme has been chosen because it provides an imaginative way of promoting and recording personal qualities, abilities and achievements as well as introducing challenging new activities.

ASDAN Certificate Of Personal Effectiveness (COPE)

This is a nationally recognised accredited Level 1 certificate, offering further development after the ASDAN youth award scheme.

Arts Award

Every year we invite students to take part in an arts project that enables them to gain the nationally recognised Arts Award at Level 1. This covers a number of art forms including music, photography, multimedia, dance and drama.

Physical Activity

Throughout the year there will be opportunities for the students to take part in different sports activities on offer, including outdoor education experiences, visits to local Ice-Gyms and a range of indoor team sports.

Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE)

At the Virtual College we pay great attention to our students development into healthy adults. We work hard to ensure they have the skills necessary to develop healthy and appropriate relationships with their friends and adults.

Miscallany

Through the ASDAN award we teach students about healthy lifestyles, including healthy eating, physical activity and personal hygiene. We have a comprehensive Sex and Relationships Policy and work with our students to provide them with the appropriate knowledge and skills to make positive and safe decisions about relationships in the future.
